Club League

Long Eaton Town Bowls Club Club League

Our Thursday League is being introduced in 2024. This is because we no longer have the Thursday night league where we played other clubs and we have been unable to enter any other leagues this year.

We are going to run our own internal league games on a Thursday Night at 6.30pm.

Members are being asked if they want to take part and confirm their availability from the dates below. We are also looking for volunteers to lead/manage each group and to attend a selection meeting with the other group leaders. We will try and mix abilities within the groups to try and encourage new / less experienced bowlers. Ideally the games will be spread out evenly and subject to availability each member could be playing 2/3’s of the Thursdays available. Each member can only play for one group. If any additional players are needed throughout the season, then Kerry Bowley, would need to be informed and approve the membership.

Each group will need to have a group name.

We are selecting the groups to encourage more people to be involved. At the moment, we don’t know how many members want to be involved, so we are asking if they can express their interest by Saturday 4th May 2024, with the first games being scheduled on Thursday 9th May 2024. The preferred method of expressing an interest is by completing the Microsoft form below. The form will also be available on our facebook page and there will be the traditional sheet on the board for people to put their name down.

The proposed format involves a league of rinks, with each team fielding a rink of 4 each week and playing in accordance with Bowls England rules and 15 ends. Each group will play each other.

16th May

23rd May

30th May

6th June

It is anticipated at this point, every group will have played each other. A fours winner can be declared at this point. It will be based on 2 points for a win and then on shots scored. Shots difference would then be the deciding factor. Dead ends will be replayed. A draw will be 1 point each.

Rather than continue playing in the same format, it is proposed that it then changes to a triple from each group playing and 15 ends (3 bowls each) and the same scoring system.

13th June

20th June

27th June

4th July

11th July

At this point we should have a triples winner. We can then change the format to two pairs, 15 ends (4 bowls each). It will be 1 point for each win and 0.5 for a draw.

18th July

25th July

1st August

8th August

15th August

At this point we should have a pairs winning group. If not, there is a couple of spare Thursdays to replay any games that have had to be rearranged.

An overall winning group will then be decided.

Normal score cards will be used to record each game.

All rinks are available to play on, unless they are booked, or the green keeper says that they are not playable on. The rinks numbers will be drawn out. Any competitions take preference on rinks.

Instead of charging each member / group an entry fee, there is a proposal to provide some food afterwards (sandwiches and snack foods) and maybe have quizzes etc. for those that want to stay a little bit longer and pay a suggested price of £3 each. The members will be surveyed to see what they want to do.
